How to maintain the dignity of the Indian Flag while hoisting?

The use, display, and hoisting of the Indian flag are guided by ‘Flag Code of India 2002’ and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. The flag is a symbol of our Nation’s independence against British rule, thus, it is imperative to be careful while hoisting the flag.

Here are a few things one should keep in mind to avoid incorrect display of the national flag:

  1. The bands should be in order. The top band should always be saffron and the bottom green. Never hoist the flag inverted.
  2. Make sure that the hoisted flag is in good condition; a torn or damaged flag should never be hoisted anywhere.
  3. The flag should always stay standing and should neve be dipped
  4. The flag is not a decoration. It should be placed at a high point and not used as any of the following- festoon, rosette or bunting.
  5. The flag should not be used as a part of a costume, uniform or accessory.
  6. While the flag can be of any size; the ratio of 3:2 is undebatable. The correct ratio is very important for the display
