Engineer 's  Day is celebrated in India on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

Visvesvaraya was born in Muddenahalli, 1861. He completed his school education from Bangalore.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Central College, Bangalore, 1881 and later studied civil engineering at the prestigious College of Engineering, Pune, 1883

Visvesvaraya serves as assistant engineer in the Nashik district, 1884

Major project completed with his own strength are Krishnarajasagar Dam, Bhadravati Iron and Steel Works, Mysore Sandal Oil and Soap Factory, Mysore University, and Bank of Mysore.

On his 100th birthday, the Government of India issued a postage stamp in his honor for his distinguished contribution to nation-building.

Visvesvaraya As Dewan of Mysore (1912-1918) he started a sandalwood oil factory, soap factory, metal factory and chrome tanning factory.
